[Swatch + Review] 'No One's Slick As Gaston' by Glam Polish

  • Shop name: Glam Polish
  • Location: Canberra, New South Wales, Australia; ships to US from Galesburg, Michigan
  • Known for: Unique vegan, cruelty-free, and five-free nail polish that is inspired by pop culture

No One's Slick As Gaston is described as a bright red-orange crelly with strong aurora shimmer and ultra holo glitter. This was released in August of 2019 as part of the "Chillin Like a Villain" collection. I got this late last year as part of my first purchase from Glam Polish. It is sold out now but was still available for months after it launched.

Glam Polish uses a tall, thin cap and very narrow brush. It surprised me initially to see such a thin brush (especially when most brands are switching to wide paddle brushes), but I found it very easy to use and prefer it to the "typical" nail polish brush. I didn't keep detailed notes on how long this lasted, but it at least had average wear on my dominant hand and wore slightly better on my non-dominant hand. (I'd guess that this means it lasted around five days before chipping significantly). Overall, the polish was smooth and easy to apply, reaching full opacity in two coats.

For this particular manicure, I used:
  • Base coat: N/A
  • Top coat: Essence Gel-Like topcoat
  • Coats used: Two
  • Wrapped tips: No
  • Decals from Fancy Gloss

Thoughts

I don't remember how I first came across Glam Polish, but they were on my wishlist for awhile before I finally purchased this and a handful of others. I'd been interested in getting a red nail polish and felt the time was as good as ever. I have never liked red nails and decided to try this one to see if I would like an orange-leaning red more, since I am a big fan of that color in lipstick. I don't think it's my favorite color on me, unfortunately, but it was fun to change things up. I also got a lot of compliments on my nails while wearing this! I won't reach for it often, but it is nice to have for times when I may want something outside of what I usually wear. This has a good formula, so my only complaint comes down to the personal color preference.

I have tried a few other polishes from Glam Polish since doing this manicure in January, and I am impressed with everything so far. My one gripe with the brand is that they don't list any color descriptions on the website; full details are released in Facebook but are not copied over to the individual item listings. This is a problem because it means that you cannot search for a polish type or color on the website. Items are separated by collection, but that isn't helpful unless you know exactly what you want to find. It won't stop me from purchasing again (especially now that I'm part of the Facebook group and therefore 'in the know'), but it was frustrating to navigate as a first-time buyer.

Overall, I am glad to have this. I think it's a fun take on a nail polish form of Gaston (the villain from Disney's Beauty and the Beast) and can see the elements of him represented here - the red of his shirt, the gold from his belt, and holo glitter to represent that he is a total diva. I feel like this would be a fun polish to use for tie-dye or other abstract nail art, so that's probably what I'll do with it in the future. Regardless, I'm pleased with how my first manicure with red nails turned out!
