[Review] Zeep Wax Scoop in 'Stroopwafels'

  • Shop name: Zeep Bath
  • Location: Wichita, Kansas
  • Known for: Sweet-smelling vegan and cruelty-free wax and body products that are handmade in small batches

Zeep's Wax Scoop is a soft, putty-like scented wax product that allows the user to easily customize the amount of wax used. It claims to be:

a very soft wax that has the ability to carry an extra high fragrance load due to its soft nature. Each jar is handpoured and made with a para wax blend which allows for maximum fragrance concentration and scent throw, giving them a strong scent and a long lasting aroma. The maximum amount of fragrance is added to every jar in order to provide you with the most fragrance possible. All melts are compatible with Scentsy and a variety of other warmers.

I got mine in the 'Stroopwafels' scent, which is described as Dutch waffle wafers, caramel, and vanilla. I bought this as part of Zeep's fall collection almost a year ago today! I love sweet smells and prefer home scents that aren't too complicated, and this seemed like a great item to try for my first purchase from them. This scent didn't return for the 2020 release, unfortunately.

Using the small wooden spoon included with my order (shown above), I found that this wax is easy to scoop and melts quickly in a typical warmer. No specific amount is recommended besides "1-2 heaping scoops per melt", so I usually scoop out an amount equal to roughly 1" square. The hot throw is excellent, in my opinion. My typical routine is to let this melt while I get ready in the morning, and I often smell this in the furthest corner of my house for about eight hours until the scent has faded or I've gone anosmic to the scent. (When I was melting it less frequently, I usually got about 24 hours out of one scoop.) The texture never hardens, even when put in the freezer, so I change the wax every few days by scooping out the cold remains and discarding them. (I got a lot of visuals while typing that sentence - everything from making a jack-o-lantern to hollowing out an animal carcass to sleep inside. My imagination is vivid right now, but I'll leave it at that.)

All of Zeep's offerings are in 'RTS' format, meaning they are 'ready to ship' and are in fixed quantities rather than made-to-order. The company has a dedicated fanbase, meaning that items often sell out within the first few days of the launch. Inevitably, a handful of things always stick around longer, but I would suggest signing up for email updates if you want to snag a particular item. In addition to seasonal releases, Zeep also has a core collection that is restocked year-round.

Thoughts

I really like this! I admit that I didn't enjoy the format at first, but it grew on me. I can see the benefits of storing a lot of wax without having to cut it up, and it's easy to remove this without having to freeze the wax and wait for it to shrink (which is a great tip for cleaning out your warmer dish, fyi)! I'm impressed with how long it lasts, both when melting and as a value for your money - I've used a scoop of wax every day for most of August and still have 25% or so left.

Since this purchase last year, I've bought from Zeep Bath two other times (one of which was this week, when I bought two more wax scoops). Their packaging can be a little excessive but is easy to reuse, and the company is reliable and ships quickly. The scents have always smelled as described, which is impressive, and I like that they strike a balance between one-note scents and and overload of notes in one home fragrance. I've only had one stroopwafel in my life, but this does smell pretty spot-on from what I remember. It's a good smell, and I am glad to use it up. I'm also excited to keep trying the rest of my Zeep stuff!
